OFFSHORE STATION

DEEP MONITORING STATION: Thanks to the support of the CNR’s Oceanographic Ship Dallaporta, in September 2019, DLTM together with the research centers (CNR, ENEA, INGV) and the Navy Hydrographic Institute , installed and positioned the Levante Canyon Mooring (LCM), a deep marine observatory at 608 m. depth, approximately 6.5 NM off the Cinque Terre Marine Protected Area and within the Pelagos Sanctuary (Lat 44°05.443' N, Long 09°29.900 ' AND).

The station's objectives include the collection of time series data to quantify the contribution of sediments, nutrients, organic matter, the trend of currents and the oceanographic characteristics of the Levante Canyon, which hosts highly valuable ecosystems, such as deep white corals.

Furthermore, the collection of geophysical and oceanographic data for long periods will allow to study climate change, protect marine ecosystems and reduce natural risks.
